DIY Modern Farmhouse Media Console

I love when I get to work on projects for other people. Especially the people I love most. My BFF Katherine and her husband Ben moved into a new house over the summer and had their first baby a month later. They are working on decorating their home and needed a new media console. They were using her husbands that he bought in college. Obviously they needed an upgrade, and they were sweet enough to ask me to build one for them.

There criteria for a media console was:

  • A place to hide all their DVDs. Yes, they still have DVDs, and they have a ton.

  • A nook for their DVD and service provider boxes

  • A nice gray color that would work with their white and blue family room furniture.

I researched a couple options, and we landed on this plan from Shanty-2-Chic. Shanty-2-Chic has awesome furniture plans. If you are looking to build your own furniture, definitely check these ladies out. They are very impressive.

Shanty-2-Chic has awesome step-by-step plans on how to build this, so I am not going to give a step by step overview. If you want the plans and the step-by-step overview, check out their plans here.

I did make a few modifications to these plans. I decreased the height of the console, and I added a shelf to both sides of the console. This was an easy addition with some plywood and pocket screws. I also used different handles, hinges, and stain based on what Katherine wanted. Check out how my version turned out!

My Version of the DIY Modern Farmhouse Media Console

I included the products I used for the media console above. I added a reel on Instagram if you want to see the process of me building this. This is great DIY piece that is perfect to store all your media gear. Send me your pics if you build this in your own home!
